Sensory-friendly online creative sessions

Sensory-friendly online classes for teenagers -- creative sessions from home with optional camera, quiet spaces, and flexible Mon-Fri 4-6pm NZ attendance.

Learning from home lets teens control noise, lighting, seating, and breaks. Egg Academy weekday sessions are facilitator-led creative making on egg.ac -- with optional camera, breakout quiet spaces, and predictable rhythm. Teens log in with an Egg avatar from their own desk.

Control the environment at home

Teens join from their own desk with their own headphones, lighting, fidgets, and seating. Parents describe this as easier than fluorescent rooms, crowded studios, or unpredictable in-person social noise. You need a basic computer, microphone, mouse, and reliable internet; Chromebooks work for Egg-Xplore and most intermediate work.

Your space, your pace

Teens show up as an Egg avatar from the desk they have set up -- their headphones, lighting, and fidgets. Harsh room lighting, crowd noise, and being visibly different in a physical class matter less when the session comes to them. They can step to quiet spaces, arrive late, or leave early without the whole room watching. After the Starter Course, facilitators match challenges to sensory and skill needs. More on avatars in Anyone can be an Egg.

Optional camera, voice when ready

Camera is optional in every live session. A microphone is required equipment so voice is available when your teen chooses -- many start with text chat only and speaking is never forced. Sessions focus on screen sharing work in progress, not being on camera. See sensory-friendly learning from home.

Quiet spaces and stepping out

During live sessions teens can move to breakout or quiet spaces when icebreakers, chat, or the main room feels like too much -- working in a smaller group, taking a breather, or continuing their project with less stimulation. They can also arrive late, leave early, or end at wrap-up (6:00pm NZ).

Predictable session rhythm

Weekday sessions follow the same structure so teens know what is coming: gathering, icebreaker, community brief, creative time, showcase, wrap-up. Full minute-by-minute detail on how a session works. Icebreakers are facilitator-supported; it is normal to take a while to settle in.

Facilitator-led rooms, not sensory chaos

Egg Academy sessions are moderated and facilitator-led -- not open social feeds or unbounded gaming voice channels. Police-checked staff run each session. Read safety and moderation.

Starter Course vs open creative time

If open-ended creative blocks feel vague, the Starter Course gives set weekly challenges in a small group -- clearer external structure before flexible membership drop-ins.

Common questions

Can my teen keep camera off the whole time?
Yes, in live sessions. The only brief on-camera moment is the one-time family check-in (parent present, about 15 minutes) before enrolment.
What if icebreakers are too much?
Teens can use quiet spaces, participate via chat, or step out. Facilitators support different comfort levels -- participation is not all-or-nothing.
How does Egg Academy work for sensory-sensitive teens?
Creative sessions from home with optional camera, quiet spaces, flexible drop-in attendance, and project-focused participation -- teens control noise, lighting, and breaks in their own space.
What times are sessions?
Core timetable is Mon-Fri, 4:00-6:00pm New Zealand time on egg.ac. Additional times may open when demand grows.
